OCR: These highly dangerous snakes are usually only 12-16 inches in length though some may be a little larger. Coral snakes spend much of their time underground, coming out occasionally to feed upon other snakes and lizards. Some harmless snakes mimic the colored banding pattern of coral snakes to deter predators. They can be indentified by their differernt banding patterns - harmless snakes have only red and black bands adjacent to one another, while poisonous ones have side-by-side red and yellow bands.
